Individualized Parenting Support
Serving parents in Maryland and across the US
Welcome
I’m so glad you’re here. If you’re like most of my coaching clients, you find yourself feeling completely stuck in your relationship with your teen or adult child with chronic emotional dysregulation or mental illness.

If you feel like you are failing..
Whether your child is still a teenager or a young adult, you feel like you are failing. You are doing the best you can, and it feels like it's never good enough. You see your child struggling, and their pain is your pain. You have a hard time understanding what your child is going through. You’re confused about when to push and when to let go. Perhaps your child’s struggles have caused a disconnect or conflict in your relationship.

I can help!
I’m a licensed clinical social worker and therapist with over a decade of experience in working with teenagers and young adults with Borderline Personality Disorder (suspected or diagnosed), mood disorders (depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders), life-threatening behaviors such as suicidality and self-injurious behaviors, and other serious behaviors such as disordered eating and substance abuse. Through it all, I’ve seen and talked with parents desperate for help.

Parents need help, too..
I decided to start a coaching practice to help parents in their relationships with individuals with chronic emotional dysregulation. After all, parents need help too. In fact, research shows that when parents of individuals with chronic emotional dysregulation receive support, there is a positive impact on the child’s mental health recovery – the individual gets better, faster. In other words, family support actually improves the individual’s suicidality, self-injurious behaviors, and social adjustment. Parents benefit too – they get much needed psychoeducation, skills, support, and resources.

Parent Coaching
DBT Parent Coaching utilizes concepts from the evidence-based framework and the gold standard of treatment for chronic emotional dysregulation, Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

Imagine
Imagine feeling empowered and confident in your parenting.
The Why
After working in the field of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for over 10 years, I noticed a gap – while individuals with emotional dysregulation have access to their therapist, prescriber, and other providers for skills and support, parents and loved ones of emotionally dysregulated individuals have little to no guidance. Friends and family members try to help but don’t fully understand. Practical educational materials are difficult to find and often have conflicting advice. Therapy doesn’t quite fit the bill, but what does?
Parent coaching fills that need.
The What
By leveraging a framework of concepts and skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, I will provide a customized program for you based on your goals. In the initial session, I will assist you with developing your Parenting Life Worth Living Goals and provide a customized program to support you in achieving those goals.

FAQ's
How is Parent Coaching different than therapy? How do I know which service I need?
Great question! Coaching is a time-limited, present-focused service which focuses on a specific issue or concern. Coaching is not for the diagnosis or treatment of mental health conditions. While I am a licensed therapist, with all the related education, experience, and intensive training, I will not have my “therapist hat” on during Parent Coaching. However, parents who do have a suspected or diagnosed mental health condition are welcome in Parent Coaching, especially if they are already receiving treatment or are ready to explore receiving treatment.

Who can benefit from this program?
Parents of teenagers with intense emotions
Parents of young adults with suspected or diagnosed Borderline Personality Disorder or chronic emotional dysregulation
Parents of individuals with suspected or diagnosed mental health conditions, even if your loved one is not engaged in mental health treatment
